Handling Classes

Why Handling  Classes are Important for You

Caledon Handling Classes allow purebred dog owners, and their dogs, the opportunity to learn how to properly conduct themselves in a Conformation Judging event. Dogs and owners learn how to stack and present themselves to the examining judge. Young dogs have an opportunity to socialize and become accustomed to different scents, noise and activity.

Owners can help their dogs prepare and become accustomed to the sights and sounds of a conformation event. Handlers learn how to move their dog(s) at the proper speed appropriate for their breed and size as well as learn how to stack, showcase and present their dog(s) to the examining judge at their best.

Many of our new handlers have enjoyed the camaraderie of the dog show world and have joined the Caledon Kennel Association.

I agree whole-heartedly with Barb. The Handling classes have paid off for me as well and I have a new champion! I was able to finish my Laekenois, Rui at the Barrie show with limited showings this year. Show pic is from the Markham show as the Barrie show pic did not turn out well. I have met some fantastic people through the Caledon Kennel Association who  have been so supportive along this new journey of conformation (previously from the performance world). Thank you to Colin and JoAnne for all of your sage advice and support.  And huge thanx to Barb for dragging me to Handling class. Suzanne

From our first CKA Conformation handling class as a new owner-handler team when Newton was 4 months old, to the last championship point 8 months later at the CKA All Breed Show, Gord, Colin and Joanne were there to cheer me on, offer advice and build my confidence. What a true joy to finish on home turf! New skills, new friends, a new title…and now I am a club member!
